On October 19, Unilever launched "Culture Republick", the company's first probiotic ice cream brand.
A proprietary strain called Ganeden BC30 is used in this ice cream. The production process of ice cream includes pasteurization and cryogenic freezing, which makes it difficult to keep probiotics alive. During the development process, researchers found that this strain could survive in low-temperature environment and maintain a stable state during transportation, which led to the smooth launch of Culture Republick.
The ice cream comes in seven flavors: honey and milk, turmeric and cinnamon, cold brew and chocolate, pistachio and caramel, lemon and whole wheat, chocolate and cherry, matcha and fudge. The average selling price in retail is $3.99-4.99.
With the launch of Culture Republic with probiotic concept, Unilever is no doubt trying to compete with Halo Top, the world's biggest ice cream seller in 2016.
