​Health Foods players with Ginkgo Biloba Extracts will face Comprehensively Investigated  According to the situations that Guilin Xingda Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. and Ningbo Liwah Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. were suspected to produce and operate the ginkgo biloba extracts produced by hydrochloric acid technology and sell them to health food production enterprises, the CFDA issued an announcement to carry out the law enforcement inspection on the enterprises producing health foods with ginkgo biloba extracts on June 8.
 
The announcement requires that all enterprises producing health foods with ginkgo biloba extracts shall immediately carry out self-inspection. Self-inspection contents include: whether to purchase the ginkgo biloba extracts produced by hydrochloric acid technology, whether to produce the health foods with the ginkgo biloba extracts produced by hydrochloric acid technology, whether to violate the approved formula and technology to use ginkgo biloba extracts, whether to illegally add other substances to the used ginkgo biloba extracts and whether to produce ginkgo leaves and their extracts without authorization and health food approval number. The inspection on the ginkgo biloba extract raw materials and the health foods produced with these raw materials shall be carried out according to the newly issued inspection method.            
 
If the problems or unqualified products occur during the enterprise self-inspection, risk control measures shall be taken immediately. For all enterprises which change the extraction technology without authorization, illegally add the relevant substances, purchase and use the ginkgo biloba extracts produced by hydrochloric acid technology and carry out other illegal acts, they shall immediately seal up their products for safekeeping, suspend their production and sale and recall their defective health foods, and they shall immediately report the relevant situations to the provincial-level food and drug supervision department and announce them to the society.
 
The announcement also requires that the food and drug supervision departments at all levels shall comprehensively investigate all enterprises producing health foods with ginkgo biloba extracts and simultaneously carry out the special random inspection and monitoring on the health foods produced with ginkgo biloba extracts for the production and operation units of health foods in the region.
 
At present, ginkgo leaves and their extracts cab be used as health food raw materials. As of May 28, 2015, a total of 457 types of health foods containing ginkgo leaves and their extracts have been approved, including 175 types of health foods containing ginkgo leaves and 282 types of health foods containing ginkgo biloba extracts.
