Both wild and cultivated Gella chinensis are available in China. The wild one primarily grows in Shaanxi, Hubei, Sichuan provinces and Guilin county of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The cultivated one is mainly in the south of Shaanxi province. The herb is harvested from September to October. The price remained around 20RMB/kg through 2013. Besides being a Chinese traditional herb, it is for the production of plastic, ink, dye and others. Some is consumed in China, others is exported. The consumption in herbal extract sector is higher than that in pharmaceutical industry.
There are 2 or 3 manufacturers of Galla extract in China, especially Hanzhong TRG Biotech and Wufeng Chicheng Biotech. The extract always sees a fluctuation from March to May. The extract's price increased 10 percent in 2013. It is predicted that the future market will keep stable, but not exclude a slight price increase.
