In a telephone interview with Minister Sun of Ningbo Liwah Pharmaceutical, She said that Ginkgo extract market runs stable through 2012, but the price rose by 10 percent, which is beared by suppliers for clients who give year-round order.

But the total exports declined, Sun said. Some European countries require SFDA's certification, which indicates that the exported ginkgo extracts conform to EC83. However, only a few products meet this standard. The requirements on ginkgo extract are stricter and stricter in America, so it's harder to export this product. Early in 2006, the consumption began drop, which is caused by the use of low-quality ginkgo extract in health product in America.

Ginkgo extract sees stable domestic demand. Manufacturers, who are not qualified to offer products to pharmas, are largely affected by SFDA's new policy.

China grows 15,000 tons of Ginkgo leave (the figure is for reference only). The leave sourcing from cultivated trees contribute to less than ten percent of the total production. The cultivated ones primarily covered parts of Zhejiang province, with production cycle of 3 to 5 years. Superior leave have seen a tight supply in recent years, but the tightness is relieved to some extent by company-based cultivation. The supply of high-quality ginkgo leave is expected to see an increase in 2014, which is not a guarantee of adequate supply in following years.

As the stocked is used up, ginkgo extract will see a serious shortage in April to June of 2014, but the following harvest will stabilize the supply of ginkgo leave in July, so the extract's market price will fluctuate below range of 5 percent.
