Currently,there are two resource of camptothecin respectively extracted from camptotheca and nothapodytes in domestic market.The former material is well known.The later is found recently and attracts a great deal of attentation as soon as it appears.
Nothapodytes, Pittosporoides(Oliv.) sleum.,is distributed in Gansu,Hubei,Hunan,Guangdong,Hainan,Guangxi,Sichuan and Guizhou provinces and so on. It is one of Traditional Chinese Medicine for curing the hernia and relieve arthritis in the long history of China.

   The maximal content of camptothecin contained in its rhizomes is up to 14 ten thousandths while that in camptotheca is just 7 ten thousandths.Whereas,the price of camptotheca is slightly lower than that of nothapodytes.Therefore,nothapodytes will take the place of camptotheca in the production of camptothecin with the passage of time.However,camptothecin extracted from nothapodytes hasn’t been conducted clinical trials.Which is the issue must be resolved if nothapodytes is widely used.

   According to herbridge.com,some manufacturers supply these two kinds of camptothecin based on customer needs.For example, Xi'an Helin Biological Engineer, Baoji Herbest Co., Ltd ., LuxiXiaoyuan Biotechnology Co.,Ltd., Baoji F.S.Biological development Co.Ltd.Some manufacturers don’t offer camptothecin extracted from camptotheca any more,they only supply camptothecin extracted from nothapodytes.These excellent corporations are Chengdu Lanqi Biologicals Co., Ltd,Chengdu Push Bio-Technology Co. Ltd, Enshi Jinhua bio-engineering Co., LTD.and so on.Some others still only supply camptothecin extracted from camptotheca.For instance,Shuangliu Chuanren Natural Plant Raw Material Pharmaceutical Factory, Xi'an keen-source biotechnology Co., Ltd, Juyan Biochemical Co.,Ltd.

   At the begining of 2008 year,Most China camptothecin suppliers wore very cautious to use the nothapodytes because its untested clinical data.According to herbridge.com,the price of 99% camptothecin extracted from nothapodytes is 10000RMB lower than that extracted from camptotheca.Some price of camptothecin is relatively higher for removing most impurities among that extracted from camptotheca.At present,the price of 99% camptothecin extracted from camptotheca and nothapodytes is respectively about 60000 RMB/kg,50000 RMB/kg.
