Among natural pigments, cochineal is a relatively representative red pigment, with extremely excellent stability. Origins of cochineal are basically limited to two countries in South America, i.e. Peru and Chile. And most extract producers are also from these
As found out by Herbridge Media, cochineal pigment has reached stable supply and demand throughout the world. Cochineal 50% is priced at RMB 2800-3200/kg, a quite rational price vs. the price of nearly RMB 5000/kg in 2010. Worldwide demands for natural pigments have always been growing strongly. Some representative natural pigments are largely needed in formulas of food, beverage and medicine.
No cochineal has been introduced and bred successfully in China. Basic suppliers mostly import from South American countries and resell cochineal.
