Rhodiola rosea extract is produced from dry rhizomes of Rhokiola rosea L, a perennial herb of Crassulaceae. Such herbs are mostly naturally growing, with no successfully planted ones found now in China.
With low content, most wild crude Rhodiola rosea rhizomes available in market now are priced at about RMB 22/kg, not lower than the price of gradeless and uniformly-priced high-content ones in last autumn. In addition, the manufacture technology of Rhodiola rosea has been relatively mature. There are a number of producers. They gain narrow margin of profit as prices are almost transparent.
In recent years, downstream developers in China have used the active ingredients of Rhodiola rosea for new purposes by applying them in cosmetics and personal care products such as shampoo, hair conditioner and beauty mask.
Mr. Wu Shibin, General Manager of Anhui Kunda Biotechnology Co., Ltd. told Herbridge Media that, the price of Salidroside 3%, which is extensively applied in China, has kept at RMB 180 approximately. Sometimes it was traded at lower prices for different reasons, for example, idle equipment, good raw materials stocked up by producer. Such trading had no significant impact on the entire market. Another product of Rhodiola rosea extract, Rosavin, which is popular in international market, has been priced at a higher level also on account of small yield of raw materials. Raw materials from Xinjiang contain far more polyphenols than those from Tibet, the price of which will not fall in a period of time due to small yield.
