Herbridge, 29 Dec. 2011_New research found that coix seed oil and coixenolide can promte mycelia growth and bioactive compound production in submerged fermentation of Ganoderma lucidum.
Researchers from Jilin Agriculture University and Wenzhou University added coix seed oil or coixenolide to culture medium for fermentation. When adding 2% coix seed oil, the production of mycelia biomass, extracellular polysaccharide, intracellular polysaccharide and ganoderic acid respectively increased 3.58, 2.44, 2.24 and 4.04 times in comparison with the placebo group. When adding 0.5% coixenolide, the production of mycelia biomass and intracellular polysaccharide respectively increased 1.17 and 1.6 times in comparison with the placebo group. When adding 0.05% coixenolide, extracellular polysaccharide production was 2.4 times compared with the placebo group. When adding 0.2% coixenolide, ganoderic acid production reached 16.42 times compared with the placebo group.
Coix seed oil and coixenolide can both promote mycelia growth and boost polysaccharide and ganoderic acid production. But the adding time and dose will affect the production of bioactive compound. The underlying mechanism requires further research.
