Herbridge, 19 Dec. 2011_Baicalin prices rebound now after a decline since the latest harvest time. According to herbridge.com, Radix Scutellariae was once in unprecedented short supply in October, when the harvest season didn't come yet.
The planting of Radix Scutellariae is primarily concentrated in Shandong, Shanxi, Shaanxi and Gansu province of China. The high prices in 2010 encouraged farmers to cultivate more Radix Scutellariae this year, particularly farmers in Gansu and Shanxi provinces. Although adversely affected by the drought, the production in these two provinces is higher than that in other regions in China.
In addition to baicalin production, Radix Scutellariae is also used to produce Chinese herbal pieces. As the winter comes and cold catchers increase in China, Chinese herbal pieces containing Radix Scutellariae such as Shuanghuanglian and Qingkailing see the peak demand. Moreover, many manufacturers of Chinese herbal pieces will increase production and inventory before the Spring Festival, which will also to some extent lead into higher prices of radix scutellariae. Therefore, baicalin prices will rise in consistent with its raw materials' prices.
