Herbridge, 28 July 2011_Epimedium sees a relatively good harvest this year, but it also sees higher prices in China. Due to increasingly serious inflation and overall deficient resources associated with overexploitation, the prices for epimedium are ¥14-15 higher per kilogram compared to the same period of 2010. Manufacturers are rushing to purchase epimedium, which sees high prices of 40RMB/kg.
Epimedium extract kept stalbe in H1 2011, but the prices began to rise after the new harvest in China. The prices for 10% icariin, which still sess upward tendency, are rushing to 680RMB/kg now since 600RMB/kg of early July. Given to the fact that the highest prices reached to 780RMB/kg last year, the prices are expected to rise up to 800RMB/kg before 2012 harvest.
As for 2011 harvest, the quality is not as good as the quantity in China. The efficient ingredient's content just approaches to 1.1 percent at highest, compared to 1.5 percent last year. Industry insider said, epimedium with 0.8 percent active ingredient can be listed as good raw material this year. According to herbridge.com, the panic buying and speculation are the two major contributing factors to higher prices this year.
