Herbridge, 30 June 2011_Curcumin is regarded as one of the promising products at the 6th Plant Extracts Development and Innovation of China Forum, held along with CPHI 2011. Fangming, General Manager of Ningbo Traditional Chinese Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd told herbridge.com, "Only by process improvement can domestic manufacturers compete with Indian suppliers."
Ningbo Traditional Chinese Pharmaceutical highlights its tumeric serial products, including oil-soluble and water-soluble curcumin. The company claimed to have established its own growing base to ensure consistent and stable supply of curcumin. Fangming said, "Ningbo Traditional Chinese Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd is to date the largest curcumin supplier in China. We plan to produce 10 tons of curcumin after 2011 harvest."
Turmeric is imported at about 25RMB/kg from India, added Fang. Turmeric primarily grows in Southeast Asia, Taiwan China and Yunnan province of China. India produces a large percentage of turmeric in the world, bringing to Indian manufacturers significant advantages over manufacturers in China. The climate in China is not well suitable for turmeric cultivation, so it is impossible to cultivate turmeric on a large scale in China. Therefore, it is important for domestic manufacturers to optimize production process and lower cost in China.
According to herbridge.com, the production of turmeric in 2011 is similar with that in 2010. Turmeric is expected to see higher prices in October this year.
