Report for 2011 CPHI Fi-Asia Hi Ni China and NPC

Herbridge, 30 June 2011_It is preliminary estimated that around 76395 visitors presented at the 2011 CPHI FIC show in Shanghai, June 21 to 23. According to herbridge.com, the leading domestic manufacturers of herbal extracts almost all attend the show.

New Products

Xi'an HaoTian Bio-engineering Technology Co., Ltd (HaoTian) revealed its Phosphatidylserine (PS) and Phosphate from Plant (PFP) at the show. HaoTian has been focusing on herbal extracts' research and innovation in recent years and successfully developed PS for brain benefits. With growing rates of the olds in China even the world, PS is regarded as a very promising ingredient. PS has been granted as novel food ingredient in China, enabling its use in all food excluding child & baby products. HaoTian also succefully produced phosphate from plants with its new technology. PFP is healthier and more sustainable than that from minerals.

Featuring its GMP system, Ningbo Liwah Pharmaceutical Co.,Ltd (Liwah Pharm) showed its key and special herbal extracts. As the professional manufacturer of Salvianolic acid B and TanshinoneⅡA, Liwah Pharm is said to offer 10-15 tons of danshen extracts a year. The company emphasized its products' traceable and authentic properties and introduced India-sourced senna leaf extract, Canada-sourced american ginseng extract, Malaysia-sourced eurycoma longifolia powder extract and New Zealand-sourced black current extract.

Based on years' expertise in the production of rutin, Chengdu Okay Plant & Chemical Co., Ltd (Okay Pharm)lauched rutinose in CPHI 2011. Scientific and clinic research showed that rutinose may inhibit the death of HL-60 and promote cell regeneration, especially epidermal cells. It is also found to may inhibit the production of nitric oxide and its enzyme in macrophages of mouse. Okay Pharm also launched L-alpha-glycerophosphoryl choline in liquid and powder form. The ingredient is used to support brain health and prevent atherosclerosis and hepatic adipose infiltration for years. The ingredient is also used as prescription drugs in Europe.

Guilin Layn Natural Ingredients Corp (Layn) offered some samples at CPHI 2011 to demonstrate how the company's sweetening solutions can be used in food and beverages. These include herbal tea respectively sweetened with stevia and LuoHanGuo extract, stevia-based candy, luohanguo extract-based candy and Lovia-based candy. Visitors were impressed with the refreshing stevia-sweetened herbal tea and the sweet luohanguo-sweetened herbal tea. Lovia is a blend of stevia and luohanguo extract and featured at many shows. Layn also revealed other sweeteners including Go-Luo(TM) and AZEVIA(TM) at CPHI 2011.

Rhodiola Root Extract

The higher prices for rhodiola root extract mislead manufacturers into considering it as a promising product. Some manufacturers with rhodiola extract as additional product also highlight this product at the show. As we all know, the sustainable resource is essential to one ingredient's success. However, rhodiola root is overexploited now. The resulted enviroment damage may drvive the goverment to publish stricter regulation on rhodiola. The high prices for rhodiola root extract now are primarily driven by rhodiola root's high prices. Therefore, it is not a true product worth for investment.

Green Tea Extract

As a bulk product, green tea extract always sees a long stable demand and supply in China. Some manufacturer told herbridge.com at the show that it planed to develop new extraction technology to create the next generation of green tea extract.
