Herbridge, 29 June 2010_It was in June that epimedium saw its harvest season in Longnan, Gansu province. The new crop has arrived in the market in China.
It is preliminary estimated that Longnan produces 100 tons of epimedium with small round leaves in 2011. The prices were quoted around 26RMB/kg. Manufacturers competed to purchase epimedium last year, leading into serious overexploitation. The result is that the production will decline in the following years. Plus the government enforced environmental protection in some growing areas. Therefore, the supply may be less than the demand in the next years. That's to say epimedium may keep high prices in the future.
However, epimedium extracts saw significantly lower prices in June, especially 10% icariin concentration for which prices declined to around 610RMB/kg. This is largely attributed to cash flow pressure. Herbridge.com predicted that the extracts might see higher prices in the near future.
