Herbridge, 14 April 2011_The combination of very low concentration of evodiamine in plants and high extraction cost as well as significantly improved synthesis technologies drives synthetic evodiamine to go towards the mainstream in China. However, low pure evodiamine is still derived from evodia.
According to herbridge.com, there are 98% pure synthetic evodiamine and 10-25 pure naturally-sourced variants available in China. Most of them target international market, primarily 98% pure version. The extraction cost of natural evodiamine is very high. Attributed to improved synthesis technologies, almost no high pure natural evodiamines are available in China. The significant improvement leads to a notable decrease of production cost this year. The prices for 98% pure evodiamine decrease to around 2800RMB/kg from 4000-5000RMB/kg of last year.
The natural variants are extracted from near ripe fruits of Evodia rutaecarpa (Juss.) Benth. According to herbridge.com, low pure natural variants see a small demand. The prices for 10% pure one are around 350RMB/kg in China. The market is expected to keep stable in the near future.
