Herbridge, 11 April 2011_Phosphatidylserine (PS) was listed as novel food ingredients by Food and Drug Administration on Nov.1, 2010.Phosphatidylserine is allowed to be used in all food, excluding child & baby products. Phosphatidylserine is considered as a promising ingredient in China.
According to herbridge.com, only three to five manufacturers provide phosphatidylserine in China. Due to a new ingredient, they all can't produce phosphatidylserine on a large scale. As a nutrition-fortified ingredient primarily for the application of yoghourt, milk powder, bread and powder beverages in Japan, American, Germany and among others.
"PS is the next hot ingredient following fish oil in the brain healthy categories worldwide", said Wang Jianchuan, director of Xi'an HaoTian Bio-engineering Technology Co., Ltd, "Based on the advantage of abundant non-GMO soybean resource, China will see a bright future in the PS segment." However, he underlined that domestic manufacturers should make efforts to further improve technologies and reduce production cost in China. In order to outpace international counterparts, it is very important for domestic manufacturers to expand production capacities and increase R&D investments.
According to herbridge.com, 20 percent pure, 40 and 50 percent pure PS are available in China, especially 50 percent version with prices of 4500RMB/kg. The market is stable in China.
