Herbridge,25 Mar.2010_Huperzine A is derived from Huperzia serrate which is a special plant in China. As a wild plant, the over-exploiation make it endangered. Some institutions cooperated with cooperations to cultivate huperzia serrate, but gained no satisfied results both in terms of effective component percentages and economic benefits.
As the output decreases continuously, the prices for huperzia serrate increase year by year. The prices have reached around 200RMB/kg this year. Some manufacturers can't get huperzia serrate or can't afford high raw materials' cost, they have to stop producing huperzine A. According to herbridge.com, 1% huperzine A prices are 12000-15000 RMB/kg which were 7500-7800RMB/kg in last May.
It is too early to say higher prices may decrease demand.
