As a perennial herb, sophora flavescens will see its harvest season in the near future. There are wild and cultivated sophora flavescens in China. The former grows tenaciously through China, but the years' overexploitation make the amount of sophora flavescens decrease significantly year by year. The prices for sophora flavescens began to increase after 2006 and to 8- 10RMB/kg in 2009, 11-12RMB/kg last winter. The trading prices for sophora flavescens are around 11RMB/kg now.
Both matrine and oxymatrine are derived from the root of sophora flavescens. Manufacturers in China use cultivated or wild sophora flavescens to produce oxymatrine. Under the inflation, the higher raw materials' prices drive prices of Sophora Root P.E. to increase in China. 98% oxymatrine prices are 2300RMB/kg, compared to 1950RMB/kg before the increase last year.
Herbridge.com predicts that the oxymatrine market will keep stable after the harvest.
