Herbridge, 28 Feb.2010_The production technologies used to extract sodium copper chlorophyllin from mulberry leaf or banana leaf are still in research and development in China. Sodium copper chlorophyllin is mainly extracted from silkworm excrement which is expanding application in recent years. Like other herbal extracts, sodium copper chlorophyllin also sees higher prices in China.

In addition to producing sodium copper chlorophyllin, silkworm excrement is also used to produce health pillow. This means that sodium copper chlorophyllin manufacturers have to compete with health pillow manufacturers to purchase silkworm excrement. Silkworm raisers prefer to sell silkworm excrement to pillow manufacturers who offer higer prices and volumes. The higher prices of silkworm excrement drive the prices of sodium copper chlorophyllin(Enterprise Standard) to rise to around 870RMB/kg in China. The market is stable now.

The combination of small profit space and higher raw materials costs as well as complicated extraction technologies restrains the development of sodium copper chlorophyllin market. There are only a few manufacturers to supply sodium copper chlorophyllin in China. In addition, sodium copper chlorophyllin is primarily for domestic market with stable demand. Owing to its non-plant sources, sodium copper chlorophyllin is not accepted in overseas market.
