Herbridge, 28 Feb.2010_Dioscin is primarily extracted from peltate yam rahizome and discorea nipponica makino in China. These two plants mainly grow in Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang, Hebei, Inner Mongolia, Shanxi and Shaanxi province. The wildly grown discorea nipponica makino has been endangered for years' overexploration. The planting area of peltate yam rahizome significantly fluctuates with the varied dioscin market, and declines in recent years.
As materials of steroid hormone drugs, dioscin sees great demand in US, Western Europe and Japan which are also major producing countries of steroid hormone drugs. China and India are also main producers in Asia. Mexico, China and India are major dioscin suppliers in the world. The domestic demand for dioscin increases year by year. But the unfavorable situation of wild materials limits its development. There are only a few manufacturers to supply pure dioscin.
Owing to the flation and raw materials' shortage, the two sourced dioscin both see prices' increase in China. 98% dioscin, the general specification sourced from discorea nipponica makino, is presently quoted at ¥600000 per ton which was ¥550000 before the Spring Festival. 90% dioscin, the general specification sourced from peltate yam rahizome, is presently quoted at ¥560000 per ton which is expected to increase in the future.
