Herbridge,23 Nov.2010_Echinacea,native to North America and Southern Canada,is introduced but not largely planted in China. The poor quality of Echinacea this year presents another challenge to manufacturers.
According to herbridge.com,after the harvest season, the polyphenols market keep stable, while chicoric acid is in short supply.Manufacturers of echinacea extracts primarily supply polyphenols.Echinacea prices increase and the quality declines, but manufacturers have a lot of polyphenols in stock. In addition, the polyphenols market is very fiece. The future market may not fluctuate significantly.
Owing to small demand, manufacturers supplies a small amount of chicoric acid every year. The number of manufacturers is less than that of polyphenols manufacturers. The prices for 4% chicoric acid increases to 650-700RMB/kg from 200RMB/kg of August this year. This is because that chicoric acid is extracted from the root of echinacea which is harvested once every three years. It is too early to say the market will keep stable in the future.
