Herbridge,9 Nov.2010_Turmeric and curcumin are in short supply worldwide. Most curcumin manufacturers cann't offer 95% curcumin in China.
The severe drought occured in India and Burma, the two major growing area of turmeric, considerably hampered turmeric production this year.It is very hard for domestic manufacturers to import high quality turmeric from these two countries now. While in China, limited production can be put down to a combination of climate conditions which hampered harvesting, along with extremely decreased producting areas after low prices several years ago prompted farmers to switch to more profitable products. In addition, the turmeric in storage is almost consumed in recent months. Therefore, turmeric prices are soaring in China. The purchasing price is basically around 23RMB/kg,over 3 fold compared to previous time.
The market price for 95% curcumin is up to 1700RMB/kg,but you should consider the probability that they actually have no goods.According to herbridge.com,the tight supply situation will not be relieved until the next harvest season of March,2011.5% curcumin is available in the market.
