Herbridge,15 Oct.2010_China manufacturers of echinacea extract see the increased cost of raw materials, but they can't correspondingly raise the price in order to keep regular customers from switching.
Echinacea purpurea primarily grows in Xinjiang province and partly in Hunan.According to herbridge.com,the prices for echinacea flower/leaf increased to 30RMB/kg from 10RMB/kg before the harvest season. It was hard to purchase leaf and flowers after the harvest in August, even the price for stem rose to 15RMB/kg.Currently,the prices for echinacea become stable, but vary with the active content and labor cost in different regions.
It is October and echinacea extract derived from the new crop is available in the market. The prices vary with the quality. The price for 4% polyphenol with low water solubility and no requirements for chicoric acid is around ¥85000 per ton;the price for 4% polyphenol with over 1% chicoric acid included is around ¥85000 per ton and it is slightly higher for 4% polyphenol with superior flow property and water-solubility(with over 2% polyphenol included);the price for 6% polyphenol is around ¥11000 per ton.The overall prices have no change before and after the harvest. Some companies claimed that in order to avoid market risk, they would not carry on production until they receive orders.
