5-HTP Market Change Radically in China

Herbridge,30 September,2010_Herbridge.com has witnessed the great fluctuation of 5-HTP since 2009.The fluctuation is the greatest one in herbal extract industry in recent years.
5-HTP prices had risen since the second half of 2009,increasing from 2200RMB/kg to export prices of $1300 per kilo.Which was driven by a combination of the increased demand primarily from American manufacturers,as well as the tightened supply from African raw material suppliers .But in June this year,the prices decreased below 3000RMB/kg and could hardly maintain at 2500RMB/kg.
5-HTP market was said to be depressed in June and July this year.The quoted prices were 2100-2200RMB/kg with very small demand from domestic and overseas market."These prices were meaningless.There is no demand,so quoters may have no goods."industry player said.Obviously,traders bring challenges to manufacturers.
According to herbridge.com,5-HTP prices still fluctuate now.As for when to be stable,manufacturers didn't give the definate time.But,manufacturers believed that the application of 5-HTP would expand in the west.Which may encourage domestic manufacturers to continue to supply 5-HTP.
Domestic players believed that the market would take a turn for the better in October.But,how prices may pick up in fierce competition?
According to herbridge.com,the prices for Griffonia seeds were mostly $5-6 per kilo in previous years and were no more than $10 per kilo at most.But the serious drought in 2008 and the good harvest in 2009,a number of traders came to Afirca and drove up prices.So the prices soared to around $25 per kilo.
Most manufacturers were said to purchase griffonia seeds at the prices of around $20 per kilo.Industry player said,"It needs time to adjust 5-HTP prices,so does the fall of griffonia seeds prices.It may takes 1-2 years to renew the virtuous cycle of purchasing,processing and trading."
