Herbridge,13 September 2010_The harvest of cnidium monnieri fruits from which derived osthole has been completed in China.Prices increase  to 10-15RMB/kg from 2-3RMB/kg several years ago.Some player joked,"another crazy garlic".

    It is reported that the output decreased drastically by about 50 percent this year compared to that of previous years.The total production amounts to 500 tons at most.In addition to the quantity,the quality also saw a serious decrease."The quality is very poor.The superior-quality raw materials can sell for RMB15 per kilo.While that which cost 10RMB/kg may be mixed with another."said Gao Ligang,General manager,Shaanxi Tianben Bioengineering Co., Ltd.This company primarily offers osthole range.

    According to herbridge.com,the supply pressures have multiple reasons.The stocks were almost used up this year,together with poor harvest.The climate conditions hampered cnidium monnieri fruits production with drought in growing phase and much rain in the harvest season.Moreover,the labor cost continues to increase in China.While low prices several years ago prompted farmers to switch to more profitable things.Additionally,the stockists held back stocks on hopes of better prices.Which further increased the supply pressures.The prices have upward tendency now.

    Accordingly,osthole prices increase slowly.30% osthole prices rose to 600RMB/kg from 530RMB/kg.Owing to osthole stocks,osthole prices didn't increase when raw materials prices rose months ago.According to herbridge.com,the osthole stocks have almost been used up.Given the higher cost pressures,some companies stop supplying this product.Some enterprises said,"the new osthole will be available in late September."

    Cnidium monnieri fruits are said to be increasingly used in Chinese patent drug.The osthole future mainly relies on the following harvest.Industry insider said,"the overseas demand for osthole has no significant change."
