The harvest season for huperzia serrata starts in May and runs through October.Huperzia serrata(all-grass of Snakefoot clubmoss),a perennial plant,mainly grows in southern China such as Hunan,Hubei,Guizhou,Yunnan and Guangxi. The SW drought makes it impossible to gain in Yunnan province.

    Consequently,huperzine price increases gradually.The price for 98% rises to 2.4 million yuan per kilogram,even 3 million now.The figure was 2 million in 2009 compared to 1.8 million in the second half of 2008. Only a few manufacturers promote huperzine as a main product.Most manufacturers only provide one kind of huperzine,notably 1%.Almost no suppliers have 5%,10% and 98% ones in stock.

    Generally,manufacturers will not carry production until they receive orders.Currently,only a few enterprises continously provide huperzine,including Baoji Runyu Bio-technology Co.,Ltd and Shaanxi Jiahe Phytochem Co.,Ltd.

    Sun,market manager,Jiahe Phytochem, comments,as the function of huperzine is discovered,the international demand grows slightly now,especially the US market.But the raw material situation restrains the development of the huperzine market.He noted that huperzia serrata is a special product in China,and now there is no alternatives.Enterprises who can supply 98% huperzine all have strong power.
