Dr.Zhao Xia from School of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ocean University of China shared information on extraction and application of marine polysaccharides on 2013 CNIC.
With 18,000-kilometer costline and 4.73 million-squre kilometre marine space, China gains rich marine plant, animal and microorganism. 22,561 kinds of marine organisms have been identified, and 1,685 kinds identified as medicinal ones, which is clssified into 15 phylum, including 480 mollusc, 190 algae. There are hot marine organisms, such as 33 coral reefs and 23 mangroves. The above provides a material basis for China's marine polysaccharides sector.
Marine oligosaccharides have been used in pharmaceuticals, health food and etc. Owing to its excretion of metal from the body, marine oligosaccharides can be developed into health food with hypoglycemic effects. Alginate oligosaccharide is beneficial for corn growth, and part of shrimp feed.
Marine polysaccharides have a bright future in food, medicine, farming and aquaculture.
